Franklin County Animal Rescue

Saving Cats & Dogs since 1964

Welcome to the Franklin County Animal Rescue website, and thank you for being a part of a responsible, responsive community that cares about its animals.

The shelter is temporarily closed to the public while financial details are being worked out. But many people have come together and are working hard to reopen the shelter, and you can expect this important community resource to be serving the people and pets of Franklin County very soon.

Want to help?  Email business@ or make a donation using the button on this website. Or check our Facebook page for volunteer opportunities!

Are you concerned about the feral cat colony near the shelter, or missing a cat?  Due to a city police mandate delivered in mid April, FCAR recently captured and is currently caring for 30 feral cats at the shelter to prevent them from being euthanized. If you are missing a cat or kitten and live within a mile of the shelter, please leave a message at (802) 524-9650 with a description and your phone number to be reunited with your pet. If you have the capacity to relocate and care for a feral cat colony over the long-term, please leave a message at the same number.

If you otherwise have a pet in need, please contact the Chittenden County Humane Society at 802-862-0135 or bestfriends@

Additional updates will be posted on this site by 4/23, and after that you'll be able to follow our progress here on an ongoing basis. Meanwhile, check out the list of upcoming pet events below.

Thank you for your interest.  Keep checking back!
